You’ll learn what ethical sourcing is and what it isn’t, the incoming changes to regulations, how to implement policy, systems and audit programmes into business and prepare remedial plans for identified issues. You’ll also learn key techniques and tips on what to do when things go wrong, how to respond and address concerns with your suppliers and customers.

Modules
1. What is Ethical Sourcing?
In this introductory module, you’ll learn what ethical sourcing is and what it isn’t, the business and moral case for effective management and current global challenges.
2. Regulations & Management(T)
In this module, you’ll learn about the latest regulations, standards and frameworks used to manage labour standards and human rights in the supply chain. You’ll cover the Ethical Trade Initiative (ETI) Base Code as well as sector specific standards.
3. Targeted Action(T)
In this module, we’ll explore who should be involved in ethical sourcing, the departments, general skills required and how to get company buy in when first starting an ethical sourcing programme.
4. Systems Planning(T)
In this module, you’ll learn about developing ethical sourcing policy, systems and strategy, mapping the supply chain, risk screening, choosing suppliers, working with others including NGOs and ethical verification platforms.
5. Auditing(T)
In this module, you’ll be introduced to ethical supply chain auditing, covering general aptitudes and skills required, planning and preparing for the audit, audit type and assessment depth, holding interviews and group sessions, protecting employees, classifying concerns and instances of non-compliance.
6. Corrective Action
In this module, you’ll learn about corrective actions and their root causes, holding difficult supplier and customer conversations, resolving concerns and putting in place plans for effective remedial action.
7. When it Goes Wrong
In this module, you’ll learn how incidents and crises happen and evolve. You’ll be introduced to crisis planning and management through an ethical trading lens and how you can prepare the business for effective response, management and recovery.
8. Communicating with Suppliers
In this module, you’ll learn about the importance of engagement and dialogue, challenges and constraints, measures for effective communication and how to support suppliers through training and capacity building.
9. Navigating Public Disclosure
In this module, you’ll learn about incoming supply chain due diligence legislation, disclosure to customers and the choices around public reporting.

Instructor
Matt Farnsworth
Matt is the founder and director of Pitchstone Consulting and a leading sustainability and ESG trainer, coach and advisor. Bringing over 25 years of sustainability and ESG experience, he has worked both in-house (most recently as Chief Sustainability Officer) and in global management consultancies helping deliver strategic and practical sustainable solutions for business and brands globally.
He has been published in The Times Newspaper, Real Deals, HR Magazine and Accountancy Age and is a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) and Fellow of the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (FISEP).
He is also an ISEP Registered Principal Environmental Auditor, having conducted several hundred Environmental, Health & Safety, Social, Governance compliance and risk audits, reviews and M&A due diligence programmes internationally, across multiple sectors and industries.
He specialises in empowering business and individuals to achieve their sustainability goals, building efficient and more resilient business and supply chains.
